The unassisted triple play
AHOY,

Last night, I found this POV (point of veiw) show on PBS. Its titled "Armadillo" after an out post in Afghanistan, manned by the Danish military. Lets see if they have any trouble with the altitude change. Being from the Netherlands i.e. much of that land below sea level and all.
There is lots of use of close captioning so I could not keep up with it on the T.V.. I thought it might be worth a look.
update; 9/1/11 11:01 hours, I failed to note my note on "what no UAV support i.e. over head, during the big shootout i.e. were the tali got "liquidated".
update 9/1/11 8:01 hours
Newjarheaddean; "Take-a-ways", on the statement to the sentries in the observation towers, "during the fighting you are more of a target (in the observation towers) so don't be standing around just staring".
That sounds like good advise. why not have the towers built like those by the Israelis in Palestine i.e. were one can not even tell if someone is in the tower. I guess no one in that base has gotten taken out by a sniper yet. I hope all the graffiti was written down by the sentry that was the designated note taker, (you know giving his eyes a brake etc.) lol, like they fallow or are even aware of that Tri-F rule.
The pit for "walk ins" looked impressive and cool, but why not make use of video and microphones etc too. If your bringing your terp right up to the pit your bring the meal to the hound. Maybe they do make use of stand off tech but did not show this, thus no education for the sheephood. Just entertainment.
Avoiding the wadis, do to IEDs? IMO the Talibobs (bookthumpers) use these LOCs and avenues of approach all the time, thus they rule the battlefield.
I wonder if the monitors in the IFVs that the crew and passengers use can be distorted by a simple off the shelf laser painting the periscopes lens i.e. port hole cover. And we got to see what looked like live feed of the big monitors being used back at the CP too. And they showed (I believe at the 39:27 mark) the Grids, now if we could just get the cumpus i.e. azimuth, direction noted. My whole point on the videos is that, there is nothing top secret here being edited, but the truth.
And as usual after the Danish, missile, bomb, artillery, what ever attack on the tali walking around the old crater, we do not stick with the coverage and show the true BDA (bomb damage assessment) i.e. the a mediate aftermath, they did show someone walking around the dust cloud. But this lack of BDA video just after the dust clears is a absolute SOP for all media. I noted before how we did not get much at all in the way of gunsight video from Bosnia, imo that was do to the lack of dust in that area. Thus we would have seen more real live damage. So CNN and others told us all, that they figured we all had seen enough of that gunsight video from GWI. LOL.
And at the 56:46 mark. WHAT! no night vision or I.R. for the camera man making the film. LOL all a bunch of hoop and hype "its Vietnam" , Hollywood, B.S.
And the video ALWAYS! gets so grainy when the shooting starts. When are we going to get to see some of that "Academy award winning" life on the line "i'm going to get some video of a tali in action" video. Notice how grainy the coverage of the dead tali bookthumpers was, but it was so close up, lol. And I guess all the camera men were back with the Danish WIA when the talibobs got "liquidated".
They did show that the tali had a pistol on him. Which reminded me of yet another point i've brought up in the past, that being why don't we see any "Jesse James" tali bookthumper" attacks. You know pulling out his conceal weapon and "fanning" i.e. rapidly firing by sweeping the palm over the hammer while steadily squeezing the trigger of his (the tali) six shooter. And thus shooting six ISAF right between the eyes as they stand in a cluster fuck.
I got a kick out of the one Danish trooper saying " its like going to the fun fair with out riding the rollercoaster", this in response to their not seeing any combat yet. And the Danish troops yelling "allah akbar" at the Tali bookthumpers. this could also make some tali think his guys are attacking over there already.
On debriefs; "individual skills" taking the one knee. I see the reason behind this i.e. when your not moving your a smaller target. However why remain on one knee. imo set or lay down take up a real position. If someone walks up on you, you should be able to shoot first. And that would mean they did not see you. As far as you being able to see better, this all goes to your choice of position and within the patrol itself. As far as seeing other members signaling you the Danish troops like all ISAF have the ICOM sets.
I noticed the KIA and WIA were discussed first like I have suggested in (my post "more on sniper flash card site" posted 6/29/11 ) actually it looked to me like this was covered in a formation before the debrief. I noted how after some real contact the uniforms thus imo discipline was out the window.
And IMO we (ISAF) need to do lots more "domination patrols" lol what a B.S. term.
With the Afghan civilians, carrying of wounded, the Danish trooper talking about how the civilians could also be carrying supplies or re-positioning weapons too was good. I've read about this tactic with Palestinian funerals too. And as he mentions they could be just doing a recce. however imo the only reason for the info being giving to the sheephood, is that it helps promote the "they (tali) are cheating no good bastards" propaganda.
At the 35:55 minute mark I did not care for the film makers attempt to fuse the video game coverage with reality as if they are very similar. However It dose go along ways to show that a whole generation is falling for that.
Then there was this, after the IED attack, the one Danish saying "route one the one we usually take home". And the Plt. commander being hit. Dose that sound familiar to anyone? ISAF is road bound and setting itself up all the time. And like I've said the real professional Tali (guerrilla fighter) makes every effort to kill the officers and top NCOs. Pushing the button, not only on the exact vehicle but at the exact moment thus hitting the exact point on the vehicle he wishes to hit. Other wise the ISAF forces would lose many more than they do. I realized this after walking through one of those mock grave yards set up all over the nation during memorial day. The majority of the lower raking personal imo were next to officers operating equipment etc when they got hit. Also this IED attack on the commander was at night, I thought we owned the night? My point is that, that old meth is one of the best kept secrets of them all i.e. we do not own the night, after all the money we spent on all this electronic crap.
At the 24:56 minute look how quick the Danish troops were, to look away i.e. turn their backs to the (could be knife wheedling Afghan). Maybe they had searched them before talking to them.
Civilians leaving the area before the shooting starts. I was wondering why not designate a rally point for the civilians prior to any combat in the area. I bet the Talibobs have done this.
And whats up with making the poor Afghan civilian who lost his cows come to the ISAF base to get paid. LOL yeah that well all be worth it.
I was also realizing that one reason for this unit of 170, not being able to stay out over night is that their main base could be over run. However if they did not have to worry to much about losing their video games etc they could have air and other indirect support deliver a crushing FPF to any tali force that over ran the base.
And the call home that reported this "liquidation" of the Tali. WHAT the MPs don't know who the phone was signed out to at the time, no voice recognition used. You see what makes people dislike me is that I just don't except everything as the gospel.
Also last night on Frontline of PBS they re-aired the show "the man who knew". And I would suggest that Mr. O'Neil was not unlike lots of agents as far as making mistakes go i.e. bending the rules.
And imo it is very suspicious, that the FBI did not want such a knowledgeable (about Al-queeeeeeda and UBL) agent on the case.
Maybe the producers should have added the words "to much" to the title.
And last but actually aired first was two shows on the so called "drug war" one titled "cocaine". So i'll put it this way. I government that would run such a charade as that is imo capable of anything. I especially found the comments about the change in smuggling tactics after 9-11 interesting. Notice how they gave no details. IMO its the have against the have not and like I've said the mobs around the world ship tons of containers into this nation every year. And the show showed remote controlled, GPS guided drones i.e. cruse missiles (lol) being used to bring in drugs.
And like I've asked "why do we not see such equipment (UAV IEDs) with the Talibanimani bookthumpers. Do say they don't have the money and they turn around and say they are working with Drug dealers i.e. tapping in by taxing that cash crop.
